The latest developments in the peace talks between the two countries

TALKS ‘Russia will take full control over the Donbas region and Novorossiya by force unless the Ukrainian troops withdraw’, the Russian President Vladimir Putin has said. His reaction comes after the talks he held in Moscow with the US special envoy, Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner on the US peace plan. President Putin has described the meeting with the two as ‘very useful’ but his claims suggest that he is not open to concession. The so-called Novorossiya includes the entire south of Ukraine up to the border with Romania and the Republic of Moldova and Putin claimed this territory for the first time in 2014, shortly after the invasion of Crimea. Putin also referred to the aforementioned territory in an essay in 2022 in which he denied the existence of a Ukrainian nation and also three days before the large scale Russian invasion.
