The Romanian football team FCSB last week achieved one of the most brilliant victories in recent years. The Romanian champions defeated the Dutch team Feyenoord from Rotterdam, score 4-3, after a dramatic game, nominated by UEFA for the title of “best performance” of the sixth round of the Europa League. The Bucharest team opened the scoring, then Feyenoord scored three times. However, the players coached by Elias Charalambous managed an exceptional finish and scored three times, turning the situation around. The winning goal was scored by Florin Tănase in the 90+5 minute, practically 20 seconds before the end of extra time. For this goal that brought one of the greatest successes of Romanian football in the new millennium, Radio Romania International designated Florin Tănase the Athlete of the Week.

In the match with Feyenoord, in the absence of Darius Olaru, suspended for yellow cards, Florin Tănase entered the field wearing the team captain armband. He was the center of gravity of the game system, tireless throughout the entire match, and, in the end, he was in the right place at the right time. Beyond his performance against the Rotterdam team, Tănase was, this season, one of the FCSB players with the most minutes spent on the pitch. Moreover, he is the team’s most efficient scorer in this season of the Romanian Super League, with 9 goals out of the total of 29 scored by FCSB.

Florin Tănase is from Găești, a town near Bucharest, where he was born on December 30, 1994. He plays in various midfield positions, especially with offensive duties. He began his football career at sports-program high school in Pitești, then moved to the Gheorghe Hagi Academy in Constanța. As a senior, he debuted at Viitorul Constanța, after which, at the age of 22, he arrived at FCSB. He spent six years with the Bucharest team, until 2022, then played two years with teams in the Arab zone. He returned to FCSB, with which, in 2025, he reached the round of 16 of the Europa League and won the Romanian Super League championship. He made his debut in the national team on May 31, 2014, in a match against Albania. He played 26 games and scored five goals for Romania. (LS)
