Romania’s President, Nicuşor Dan, paid a visit to London, where he was received by King Charles III of the United Kingdom at Buckingham Palace. Worth mentioning is that while he was heir of the British crown, His Highness travelled many times to Romania where he has properties in the village of Viscri and the Zalan Valley. The Romanian president also met some Romanians residing in Britain as well as members of the British and Romanian business environments. He told the representatives of the Romanian communities they represent a huge potential for Romania.

Nicușor Dan referred to the interface aimed at uniting all the Romanian communities abroad, adding that he is optimistic about Romania’s midterm future.

He said he would encourage investment which brings state-of-the-art technologies in Romania, fresh well-paid jobs, which, by rising domestic output, will help the process of curbing the trade deficit. “The message of the business environment has been clear: there is the need for a bigger openness from the Romanian state, of authentic cooperation and functional partnerships. Entrepreneurs have underlined the importance of the institutional support for stepping up digitalization and backing start-ups, as essential factors for development and innovation,” the Head of the Romanian state wrote on Facebook. He underlined the meeting with representatives of the British business environment and reconfirmed Romania’s commitment to consolidating trade and economic relations with the United Kingdom and encouraging British investors to continue to come to Romania.

Nicușor Dan has underlined that innovation, supporting the entrepreneurship and building solid bridges between the Diaspora and Romania remain priorities for the country’s durable development.

Before London, the Bucharest leader had gone to Helsinki, where he attended the EU Eastern Flank Summit, which focused on tightening ties between Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania, mainly in the context of the threat posed by Russia. Nicuşor Dan said that talks focused on practical ways of increasing preparedness in the field of defence on the Eastern Flank, how to protect the population and deter any aggressive intention from Russia. President Dan said Romania must capitalize on the European initiatives on defence preparedness and these efforts must unfold in full coherence with NATO requirements in term of collective defence. At the same time, Nicușor Dan has drawn attention to the allies’ assessment that the Russian threat remains even after the war with Ukraine has ended, so all NATO members must keep calm and invest in defence.
