On Wednesday, Romania’s basketball side U-BT Cluj-Napoca conceded defeat to Israeli side Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem, 114-104, in an away match of the EuroCup, Group A. The Romanian champions suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions and the third in a row in the EuroCup. With one stage before the end of the group stage, the Romanian side occupies the 6th place. The first two teams in each group qualify directly for the quarterfinals, and the next four sides will join a play-off to access the quarterfinals. U-BT will be playing Aris Salonic in a week, the team in the 7th place, in a decisive match for the play-off.

The Transylvania Open women’s tennis tournament, a WTA 250 competition with a prize pool of 283,000 dollars, continues in Cluj. On Wednesday, the main favorite, Britain’s Emma Răducanu, qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating Slovenian Kaja Juvan 7-5, 6-1. Also in the quarterfinals is Polish Maja Chwalinska, a player who came from the qualifiers, who managed to eliminate the number 7 favorite, Olga Danilovic, from Serbia, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.

Games were scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday in the Romanian Football Super League, counting for its 25th leg. On Tuesday, Petrolul overcame Unirea Slobozia 1-0 in Ploieşti, Universitatea Cluj won 3-1 at home against FC Argeş, and Rapid Bucharest defeated Hermannstadt 3-0 in Sibiu. On Wednesday, in Clinceni, Csikszereda defeated Bucharest’s Metaloglobus 1-0, then in Arad, CFR Cluj beat UTA 1-0. In the most exciting game of the day, Dinamo Bucharest won 3-2 against Constanta’s Farul at Ovidiu. The last two games of the round, on Thursday: Universitatea Craiova vs. Oţelul Galaţi and FCSB vs. AFC Botoşani. Rapid and Dinamo lead the standings, with the same number of points, 48. Universitatea Craiova follows, two points behind.
