The Winter Olympics continue in Italy. On Tuesday, the pair made up of Mihai Tentea and George Iordache took 5th place in the two-person bobsledding event. The two athletes thus achieved the best Romanian performance at the Winter Olympics in the new millennium, after, in 1992, in Albertville, the pair Ioan Apostol / Liviu Cepoi took 4th place in the luge. Now, Tentea and Iordache have finished the competition just 85 hundredths of a second away from the podium. Let’s listen to them!
Mihai Tentea: “It was extraordinary, my best result ever at this level of competition. It’s also George’s best result at this level. It’s extraordinary that it happened at the Olympic Games. For me, every round felt like a victory. We managed to fight with the best and we managed to defeat a lot of them.”
If Tentea is in his third Olympic participation, George Iordache is a debutant at the Games: (TRACK) “In a way, it’s incredible what happened these two days. I think no one would have expected it. We left home thinking about a place in the top 10, but we had a very good competition, we were also lucky and it went flawlessly.”
In figure skating, Julia Sauter qualified for the free skate. She finished the short program in 16th place, with 63.13 points, the best score of her career so far. The free skate competition will take place on Thursday. At the last European Championships, Julia finished the free skate in 6th place.
Among the other results obtained so far by Romanian athletes at the Olympic Games at Milano – Cortina, let’s note those in the luge. In the women’s doubles, the pair made up of Raluca Strămăturaru and Carmen Manolescu ranked 9th. Also in 9th place was the Romanian mixed team, made up of Corina Buzățoiu, Valentin Crețu, Marian Gîtlan, Darius Șerban, Raluca Strămăturaru and Carmen Manolescu. (LS)
