Between February 12 and 15, the spring edition of Romania’s Travel Fair brought together the most attractive offers of the season with emphasis on the authenticity and diversity of Romanian holiday destinations. Our first stop was at the stand of Mures County, where we are welcomed by Dana Matic, from the Tourist Information Center.

Dana Matic:” Once you reach Târgu Mureș, we recommend that you go to the Culture Palace where there is the Visit Mures Association and our travel information center. There you can find brochures, pamphlets, maps of the area, useful information and our colleagues are available everyday with suggestions on your trekking routes. The county’s most important attractions are at a one-hour drive from Târgu Mureș. These are the Sovata spa, famous for its Ursu Lake and the fortress of Sighișoara. In fact, tourism in Mureș county is based on these three main pillars and for this reason we are recommending tourists holidays of 3-4 days at least. We are also actively promoting castles and mansions in the county being very proud that Mures has the biggest number of monuments nation wise, many of them being recently refurbished and opened to visitors.”

We remain in the spa area and we invite you to Pucioasa, a spa in southern Romania with a tradition spanning 170 years. This spa-city has been rejuvenated thanks to the latest investment from EU-funds, says Anca Diaconescu, with the Tourist Information Center.

Anca Diaconescu:” Our region is appealing to both tourists and to those interested in spa facilities as it is renowned for the quality of its sulphurous waters and mild weather. We are waiting for you at any time to benefit from facilities use in the treatment of rheumatism, post-traumatic and post-operative treatment of the locomotion system as well as in the treatment of respiratory and neurologic affections. We have made available two modern treatment facilities assisted by well-trained professionals. Pucioasa has remarked itself through a special urban development as the city is on top of the list of the localities, which attracted European projects and had their entire infrastructure modernized. Besides medical treatments, tourists can enjoy what we call ‘forest baths’ as Pucioasa is located in a place surrounded by forested hills offering the perfect conditions for hiking and relaxation in nature.”

Florentina Gheorghiță, coordinator of the National Center of Tourist Promotion and Information in Botoșani, invites us to spend the Easter holiday in northern Romania.

Florentina Gheorghita: “We are welcoming our tourists mainly with offers dedicated to the Easter holidays, which include workshops of egg-painting, pottery and basket-making. We are offering meetings with the local traditional music virtuosos and walks through the city’s old center. As the weather gets warmer, tourists can explore the numerous natural reserves or enjoy recreational fishing as the city of Botosani boasts the second largest lake in Romania. During Easter we invite you to visit famous monasteries such as Vorona, Sihastria Voronei, Cosula, famous for its yellow paintings or the Monastery of Popauti in the city, built by Moldova’s greatest ruler, Stephen the Great back in 1496. At the end of a day of trekking and other activities, tourists can find relaxation at the local Aqua Park, a compound stretching over 48 hectares, which is offering spa areas and swimming pools, bicycle lanes and children’s playrooms, an artificial river for rafting and a lake suitable for boat and kayak rides.”

Ionela Lungu, is a traditional artisan from Humulești, northern Romania, who is promoting slow tourism.

Ionela Lungu: ”We are present here, me and my husband, traditional artisans at the stand of the Neamt County Council. We have workshops here of traditional craftsmanship to show visitors that besides the tourist objectives, Neamt county also offers workshops of traditional crafts and trades. We are trying to reenact crafts and trades, which disappeared long time ago, but which used to be extremely important. I, for instance, am trying to carve out of clay characters from the humorous stories of the local writer, Ion Creanga. My husband has brought back to life the trade of building ceremonial axes and hatchets.”

Manuela Vasilescu, a representative of the Palace of Culture in Drobeta Turnu Severin, invites us to a take a holiday in south-western Romania.

Manuela Vasilescu:” We invite you to discover the most beautiful tourist objectives that we have here, as this region boasts history-laden areas with fascinating stories. We are welcoming all of your listeners who may come here to enjoy Drobeta Turnu Severin, a city, which once was known as the ‘City of Roses’. The main tourist attractions here include the medieval citadel of Severin, overlooking the river and the Palace of Culture. Another major objective is the Water Tower whose building was kicked off in 1910 on the city’s highest point. During the inter-war period, the facility was supplying water to the city and legend has it that a treasure had been buried at its foundation. Today it is a must-see travel site, which offers a superb panorama of the city.”

Travel agencies and operators were present at the spring edition of Romania’s Tourism Fair with exclusive travel packages and discounts of up to 55%. Visitors got access to excellent holiday offers in various seaside resorts. Holiday packages in the Danube Delta, Sfântu Gheorghe, Crișan or Sulina, started from 80 Euros per person for three nights. A special offer was The Great Romanian Tour, an 11 day journey through Transylvania, Maramures, Bukovina and Moldova at 1000 Euros per person, transport included, bed & breakfast as well as visits to various tourist objectives.
