Radio Romania celebrates 85 years of broadcasting. With three national and nine regional stations, as well as an international channel with ten languages, Radio Romania stands as a mainstay of public radio worldwide. In a special message, PM Victor Ponta said that Radio Romania is the most credible source of news and information, with the widest audience countrywide.



Constantin Nitu, minister delegate for energy, said that putting 15% of Romgaz shares on the stock market as an IPO was a success. The price per share was 9.25 USD, for a total of 534 millions. The shares were on sale on the Bucharest and the London stock exchanges between October 22 and 31. The London listing was a national first. Romgaz runs half of the gas extraction



Health authorities in Romania are still running checks at the company making beef products after the UK alleged it found horse meat in them. The head of the national sanitary authority, Vladimir Manastireanu, warned of dire repercussions if the allegations prove to be true.



Between the 2nd and the 5th of November , the Romanian Environment Minister Rovana Plumb will be a visit to Israel, where she will meet her Israeli counterpart Amir Peretz. The talks will focus on topics such as the management of emergency situations, water management, pollution control and impact assessment. Also, Rovana Plumb will participate in the International Conference of Leader Women, focusing on gender equality and women’s promotion in the next framework, an event organized under the aegis of the UN.



The Republic of Moldova, an ex-soviet country with a Romanian-speaking majority has designated Romania as mentor in a project concerning the protection of refugees, says a communiqué issued by the Bucharest-based General Inspectorate for Immigration. The EU-funded project, co-funded and implemented by the UN High Commissariat for Refugees is spanning two years and it focuses on improving asylum and protection-granting procedures in six countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belaruss, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. A delegation of the Office for Migration and Asylum in the Republic of Moldova came to Bucharest these days in an attempt to strengthen cooperation between the authorities of the two states.



‘Love Building’ a feature film directed by Romanian Iulia Rugina won the best photography award at the international Film Festival in Tirana, Albania, held between October 23rd and 31st. The film, whose photography is signed by Marius Iacob, is a dramatic comedy set in a camp meant to rebuild broken relationships. Love Building is a feature film signed by Iulia Rugina, 31, which got the audience award and a jury special mention at the B-EST 2013 festival in Bucharest.



On Saturday Romanian Simona Halep, 22, will be playing in the semis of the lawn tennis tournament in Sofia, with 750 thousand dollars in prize money. In the first matches, the Romanian has outperformed Alize Cornet from France, Anastasia Pavliucenkova from Russia and Elina Svitolina from Ukraine. Halep is currently ranking 14th in the world standings and has won 5 WTA tournaments in 2013. In another development, the pair made up of Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau and Bielorussian Max Mirnii on Friday qualified for the semis of the double contest of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy, France with 2.6 million euros in prizes. The Romanian — Byelorussian pair have outperformed 6-3, 6-4 Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez from Spain.
