The Romanian and Polish presidents, Nicuşor Dan and Karol Nawrocki, said on Thursday during bilateral talks in Warsaw that Romania and Poland have demonstrated their shared vision in many areas. The two countries remain reliable partners and allies within NATO and the European Union, President Dan emphasized.

Romania and Poland have reconfirmed their strategic partnership at the highest level. The two leaders highlighted bilateral cooperation in the political and economic spheres and concluded that their countries are examples of success within the European family. Romania and Poland currently have similar characteristics, said Nicuşor Dan. According to him, they are large countries on the eastern border involved in NATO, which have developed following their accession to the European Union and which encourage transatlantic partnership, including within the Union, but also countries that can benefit from the fact that they have a common vision in many areas.

Nicuşor Dan: “In terms of security, there is already cooperation between our armies. We are present in Poland, Polish troops are present in Romania. We discussed joint acquisitions and how to make the most of the SAFE program (Security Action for Europe). As you know, we are very interested in the Black Sea, just as Poland is interested in the Baltic Sea, and we talked about sharing our experience on how to create that security hub in the Black Sea, which is important for Romania.”

Polish President Karol Nawrocki said that the discussions focused on the North Atlantic Alliance, the European Union, and Poland’s cooperation with Romania and the US. On the other hand, President Nicuşor Dan also responded to a question regarding France’s proposal to extend its nuclear umbrella over certain European states, pointing out that Romania is protected by NATO’s nuclear umbrella. Dan said that there is no question of nuclear elements being placed on national territory in the medium term. The Cotroceni leader mentioned that Romania has a strategic partnership with France, but remains anchored in the deterrence mechanisms of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Regarding the open conflict in the Middle East, the president stated that he would not convene the Supreme Council for National Defense as long as events did not pose an immediate threat to Romania. He emphasized that the priority was to bring home compatriots in the region who had been affected in one way or another by the war.

Regarding the regime in Tehran, which has been the target of concerted attacks by the United States and Israel, the president recalled that it had sponsored terrorism, destabilized the region, terrorized its own people, and refused to cooperate with international bodies on the nuclear issue, which has led to European sanctions.
