Victories for Romanian basketball. The women's national team defeated the team of Cyprus, and the men's team U-BT Cluj-Napoca qualified for the EuroCup "quarterfinals".

The Romanian national women’s basketball team defeated Cyprus on Wednesday, score 75-60. The match took place in Sibiu and counted for Group C of the 2027 European Championship preliminaries. Ştefania Cătinean, with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists, was the best player of the team coached by Cătălin Tănase. In the other match of the group, Poland defeated Slovakia 63-55. In the standings, Poland ranks first, with 8 points, followed by Slovakia and Romania, with 6 each, and Cyprus, with 4. Poland has secured its presence in the next phase. The two top-ranked teams from each group, as well as the best three teams on third-place, go to the second round of the preliminaries, a total of 17 teams. Romania will play the last matches in the group on March 14, in Sibiu, against Poland, and on March 17, in Bratislava, against Slovakia.
Let’s move on to men’s basketball. U-BT Cluj-Napoca spectacularly qualified for the quarterfinals of the EuroCup men’s basketball competition. In the “quarterfinals” playoff, the Transylvanian team defeated, on Wednesday, away from home, the Montenegrin team Buducnost Podgorica, score 100-82. Panamanian Iverson Molinar was the best man for the Cluj team, with 34 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. In the “quarterfinals”, on Tuesday, March 17, U-BT will play away from home against the Turkish team Bahceşehir College Istanbul, which qualified directly for this phase.
In the first leg of the CEV Cup women’s volleyball semifinals, CSO Voluntari was defeated away from home by Galatasaray Istanbul 3-0. Canadian Denise Duchesneau, with 15 points, was the best player for Voluntari. From the Turkish team, the most efficient player was the Romanian-born player Alexia Căruţaşu. The second leg will take place on March 18, in the Multipurpose Hall in Bucharest. Last year, the Romanian team Volei Alba Blaj reached the final of the competition. In the current edition, the Transylvanian team was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the team from Voluntari.

In the quarterfinals, on March 28, the team from Maramureş will face CSM Galaţi, Gloria Bistriţa will face Corona Braşov, CSM Bucureşti will face SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea and Rapid will face SCM ”U” Craiova.
