Economic and political cooperation between Romania and Belgium are on the agenda of talks between Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean and Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, according to the Romanian Foreign Ministry. The two will also look more closely to institutional evolutions post European Parliament elections, the situation on the eastern border of the EU, especially in Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the Balkans. The two officials will also discuss the NATO summit in September and issues such as Syria and the Middle East peace process.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigoryi Karasin is in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, discussing with Moldovan officials the country’s association with the EU. Karasin’s visit comes ahead of the signing of the EU association agreement on June 27, which analysts expect to be disagreeable to Moscow.

Underground train employees in the Brazilian capital, Sao Paulo, have announced they would go off their strike, at the same time saying that they would decide on Wednesday whether the stoppage resumes or not on Thursday, the opening day of the World Football Championship, according to AFP. The strikers demand that employees fired after protests started be reinstated. The strike has already caused major disruptions in Brazil’s largest city, and risks creating even worse difficulties in case it is resumed on Thursday. The 20 million inhabitant city will play host on Thursday to the opening match, that between Brazil and Croatia. The match, attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and 11 heads of state, is expected to be watched by at least a billion people worldwide.
