The second round of the play-off / play-out phase of the Romanian Super League championship was scheduled earlier, to give the national team time to prepare for next week's match against Turkey.

In the first round of the WTA 1,000 tournament in Miami, Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea defeated Chinese  Shuai Zhang 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday. The Romanian won in 69 minutes, scoring no less than 14 aces. On Wednesday, all scheduled matches were postponed due to rain.

The Romanian national team missed out on qualifying for the European Women’s Basketball Championship – EuroBasket 2027. They took 3rd place in Group C of the preliminaries, after being defeated, in Bratislava, by Slovakia, with 79-55. In the other match of the group, Poland defeated Cyprus 90-48. In the final ranking of the group, Poland was in first place, with 12 points, followed by Slovakia, with 10. Romania collected 8 points, and Cyprus, the last ranked, only 6. In the second round of the preliminaries, the first two ranked teams from each group qualified, as well as the three best third-place teams, a total of 17 teams.

CSO Voluntari missed qualifying for the CEV Cup final in women’s volleyball. Voluntari were defeated, on Wednesday, in Bucharest, in the second leg of the semi-final, by Galatasaray Istanbul, 3-nil. In the round, the Turkish team won, also on home turf, 3-0.

The water polo team CSM Oradea was defeated, on Wednesday, away, by the Hungarian team BVSC Manna ABC with a score of 14-8, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Euro Cup. The Romanian champion started better and led 3-1, but then the hosts took control. The second leg will take place on March 28, in the pool of the Bihor team. The team that will advance will play in the semi-finals with the winner between Panathinaikos Athens and Jadran Split.

There is one week left until the Turkey – Romania football match, semi-final of the World Cup play-off. To give the Romanian team time to prepare, the matches of the second stage of the final play-off / play-out phase of the Romanian Super League championship have been scheduled earlier. In the play-off, the first game, Thursday: Dinamo București is up against Universitatea Craiova. (EE)
