Romanian women's handball team SCM Craiova last week
pulled off the greatest performance in the history of Craiova handball. SCM
qualified for the EHF Cup semifinals, grabbing a 26-23 away win in the game
against the strong Russian opponents Lada Togliatti. The fixture counted
towards the second leg of the EHF Cup's quarterfinals. In the first leg, Lada
won the game in Craiova, 25-23. In the semifinals SCM Craiova will go against
Turkish contenders Kastamonu, a team that in the quarterfinals defeated another
Romanian team, Handball Club Zalau. SCM Craiova's top scorer in their game
against Lada Togliatti was Valentina Ardean - Elisei, who scored 9 goals for
her team. Following her excellent run in Russia, Radio Romania International

Top-flight handball player Valentina Ardean -
Elisei was born on June 5, 1982 in Focsani. She first played as a pro with Universitatea
REMIN Deva, a team with which she won the European Challenge Cup in 2002.
Between 2004 and 2006 Valentina
Ardean-Elisei played for the Serbian team Knjaz Miloš. She then had a
stint with Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea, a team with which she won the Cup Winners
Cup in 2007 and played the Champions League final in 2010. When Oltchim was
dismantled, Valentina Ardean-Elisei played for Cetate Deva. In 2014 she
joined HCM Baia Mare, a team with which she reached as far as the quarterfinals
of the Champions League. However, HCM went through a very difficult financial
crisis and could no longer pay its players, so Valentina Ardean Elisei was
signed up by SCM Craiova.
made her debut with the national team in 1999. As a national team player,
Valentina Ardean Elisei won silver at the 2005 World Championship in Russia.
She also walked away with bronze from the 2010 edition of the European
championships, jointly hosted by Denmark and Norway.
