The town of Putian in China has recently played host to the World shooting sports final. Romanian shooter Laura Coman was among the protagonists. Laura walked away with bronze in the 10-meter air rifle event. Reason enough for Radio Romania International to designate Laura Coman the Athlete of the Week.
In the qualifiers in Putian, Laura Coman got 629.3 points. The result secured the Romanian the 5th-position. In the final, Laura got 229 points. She was outclassed by India's Elavenil Valarivan, with 250.8 points and Ying - Shin Lin, with 250.7 points.
Laura-Georgeta Coman was born in Bucharest, on April 30, 1993. She has been into shooting sports since 2010, and has been taking part in competitions since 2012. Laura is signed up by Dinamo Bucharest sports club, where her trainer is Olimpiu Marin. Laura Coman is a defending European champion since she won gold in Croatia's Osijek, in March 2019. Laura's medal was the first European title a Romanian athlete has won in 2019.
On November 1st, Laura Coman was 6th-placed, according to the 10-meter air rifle world rankings, and she was the best-placed European athlete in this rankings. Laura Coman's set target is the winning of an Olympic medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, since Laura is rated as the most promising athlete in Romanian shooting sports. Worth noting is that, fairly recently, Romania's Alin Moldoveanu won an Olympic title in the 10-meter air rifle event, at the London Olympics in 2012.
