Romanian football side CFR Cluj on
Wednesday failed to qualify for the Champions League's groups. The Romanians
lost nil-one their away game against Czech side Slavia Prague in the second
round of the league's play-offs.
The Czechs had also won the first game
one-nil. Jan Boril scored the goal for the Czech side in the 66th
minute. Romanian international Nicolae Stanciu played for Slavia until the 90th
minute, when he was replaced by Michal Frydrych. CFR will continue in the
Europa League, whose lots are to be cast in Monaco on Friday.
Romanian boxer Lacramioara Perijoc
has reaped a medal in the European Women Boxing Championship held in Madrid. Perjoc
has obtained a win in the quarterfinals against Italian Giulia Lamagma, whom
she defeated on points 5-0. The Romanian will be up against Caroline Cruvellier
of France in the semifinals on Friday. Out of the Romanian delegation of seven
athletes only Perjoc remained in the Spanish competition.
Five Romanian teams on Wednesday
qualified for the semifinals of the world rowing championship in Linz. In the
women's pair, Cristina-Georgiana Popescu and Amalia Beres came second in the
fourth quarter finals, advancing to the next stage of the competition.
In the lightweight women's double,
world champions Geanina-Elena Beleaga and Ionela Livia Cozmiuc have also
qualified for the semifinals and so has the men's double scull made up of Ioan
Prudeanu and Marian-Florian Enache who came third in the race.
women's double scull made up of Nicoleta-Ancuta Bodnar and Simona Geanina Radis
have also qualified for the semifinals after having won the first
requalification round. Marius Vasile Cozmiuc and Ciprian Tudosa have finished
on the second place in the men's pair race and will also compete in the semifinals.
