Romanian women’s handball clubs are playing their European cup matches this weekend. On Saturday, Sport Club Municipal Craiova receive the French side Brest Bretagne Handball in an EHF Cup Group A match. If they win, Craiova can become leaders of the group. They are currently in second place with 4 points, while the French side top the group with 6 points. The Russian side Kuban Krasnodar, who are in third place with 4 points, on Sunday face the Danish side Randers, who are at the bottom of the group ranking with 2 points.
In another EHF Cup match, Handbal Club Zalau on Sunday face the Norwegian side Larvik, the Group D leaders. Zalau can qualify for the competition’s quarterfinals even if they draw. Larvik are top of the group with 7 points, which means they have already ensured their qualification for the next round. Zalau are in second place with 6 points, followed by the Danish side Hoors with 2 points and the Czech side Danik Most with 1 point.
Also on Sunday, but this time in the Champions League, CSM Bucharest face the Danish side Midtjylland in a Group 1 main round match away from home. CSM top the group with 8 points, while the Danish side are in the 6th and last place with 2 points.
In football, Romanian First League matches resume this weekend, when the 23rd leg of the regular season is scheduled.
Two matches are played on Friday: Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe versus Poli Timisoara and Viitorul Constanta versus Astra Giurgiu. On Saturday, FC Voluntari play against Poli Iasi at home, while FCSB face Gaz Metan Medias away. On Sunday, FC Botosani face Juventus Bucharest on home turf, while Dinamo Bucharest receive Universitatea Craiova, also at home. Finally, in the last match of the leg on Monday, CFR Cluj play against Concordia Chiajna.
Cluj are currently in the lead in the overall ranking with 49 points, followed by FCSB with 47 and Craiova with 43.
