Badsha Jahangir, from India
“First of all, I would like to congratulate you on the success of your programs in over 10 years. Keep up the good work! When I began listening to RRI, I was enthusiastic to listen to you more. You are above all other media stations across the globe with your fine, accurate and comprehensive schedules. You’re my No 1 radio…”
K. P. Muneer, United Arab Emirates
“This is a brilliant achievement by team work of RRI. Hats off to RRI!”
Rana Dewan Rafiqul, Bangladesh, president of the Friends Radio Club
“Greetings from Bangladesh. I hope this letter finds you well. It has been some time since I last wrote to you, but I have still been listening. I have been a listener since 1989. I would like to congratulate you on the well-presented and in-depth news. I like your science and technology, culture, and current affairs programs.”
Avinash Cheetoth, the United Arab Emirates
“Warm greetings from Al Ain, UAE. I have the pleasure to report the reception of the English broadcasts of Radio Romania… We had an extended weekend due to national day holidays here in the UAE. Used this time to tune in to RRI on shortwave. Wishing all at Radio Romania merry Christmas and a great new year.”
Brian Kendall, England
“Dear friends in Bucharest, I must begin with correspondence rather than the reception report this month since I want to give a big ‘thank you’ for the gift I received recently. I was very interested in the recording of Dumitru Farcas playing the tarogato. I have obviously heard the tarogato in Romanian folk music but I never knew what it was! In fact, our dictionaries fail to mention it… with the exception of a specialist music dictionary. Even more enjoyable for me are the ‘Unknown Enescu’ recordings. My favourite piece is very short: it is just over one and a half minutes and is entitled ‘Hora Unirii for violin and piano’. Enescu does so much with this one and a half minutes! He is full of surprises. So, thank you again. I really wouldn’t know much about Romanian music without you.”
Taslim Uddin, Bangladesh
“International radio stations are more interested in websites rather than broadcasting their transmissions through satellite or other sources. But still a vast audience is made up of people who listen to the broadcasting stations through classical receivers. I am really grateful that you are still presenting broadcasts on the shortwave despite the recession in Europe and many other challenges.”
Sayanangshu Modak, India
“I am a student, doing my B.Sc. from Presidency University, Kolkata, in Geography. I love travelling and probably this is one of the reasons I have taken up Geography. I would also like to visit Romania. It is a beautiful country with wonderful and rich traditions. The Hoia-Baciu Forest area would be one of the priorities, and you know why! Anyway, I have taken up DX-ing as a hobby only recently, and RRI is one of the stations that I simply love listening to. We get to know so much about your beautiful country and its people. Feels like we all belong to a big family out there. I had not expected to catch this broadcast since it wasn’t meant for India and also because I was tuning in from a domestic receiver of a very poor quality, but nonetheless when I did manage to catch it on my receiver and identified it to be RRI broadcasting for Western Europe and Japan, I was elated. It surely will remain as one of my most prized receptions. Again thank you so much for responding. I wish RRI continues the wonderful work for all the global audiences. Best wishes for your entire team.”
