Romania is a contributor to Transatlantic Security of the Eastern Flank and the region we are in, Romania’s President, Nicusor Dan says in his address at the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy (RADR).

The head of the Romanian state referred to major projects in the field of regional interconnection and announced that the gas exploitation at Neptun Deep is going to commence next year. Furthermore, the President referred to the urgency of solving some pending administrative issues in the system. In his opinion, the three main priorities of the Romanian diplomacy are, strengthening security, the Romanian communities abroad and economic diplomacy.

Nicusor Dan: “In our actions this year, we tried to consolidate our role within the multilateral security formats we are part of and the message is that Romania is a contributor to transatlantic security, to the eastern flank and the region we are in.”

He recalled that this year Bucharest hosted the B9 Summit, which involved the participation of NATO Secretary General and the representatives of the US and Ukraine, and that upon the aforementioned meeting a major statement was issued for the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara. Speaking before the diplomats gathered at the Cotroceni Palace, President Dan said the partnership with the United States is very important for our country, who also wants to enjoy a stronger economic presence of the US companies.

He also pointed out the importance of the Black Sea area to Romania and Europe’s security and for the future of the economic relationship with the Caspian zone and Asia.

Nicuşor Dan:” We have achieved progress on the European hub of maritime security and next year we’ll kick off exploitation at Neptune Deep. We are making progress in terms of energy interconnections with the countries in the region and each of these instruments is part of our security policy”.

Nicuşor Dan says he hopes that a series of administrative issues of the Romanian diplomacy, such as the situation of some head offices and the belated rotation of diplomats may find solutions in the future as well. At the same time, the head of the Romanian state reiterated Romania’s support for the integration of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, as well as for the countries in the Western Balkans. He also added that the relationship with the ex-Soviet, Romanian-speaking Republic of Moldova remains one of extreme importance for the Romanian foreign policy. Referring to economic diplomacy, Nicuşor Dan says there are opportunities, which appear with the treaties the EU signed in relation with Mercosur, India, Indonesia, Australia and other major markets. The Romanian diplomats also met the acting Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, who hailed their decisive contribution to the promotion of the national interests abroad.
