The Irish Ambassador to Romania, Brendan Ward, has presented in Bucharest the priorities of the Irish presidency of the Council of the EU. Ambassador Ward said, among other things, that his country holds this position for the 8th time, and that the current mandate is built on three pillars: competitiveness, values and security. Ireland will work intensively on proposals within each pillar, as well as on priorities which span all three.
Attending the event, the interim Foreign Minister of Romania, Oana Toiu, presented Bucharest’s vision on the priorities of the Irish presidency of the Council of the EU. She mentioned the importance of Ireland’s role as a mediator in the negotiation of a new Multiannual Financial Framework, of the EU budget for 2028-2034 and also in maintaining the planned allocation of 60 billion euros to Romania. Minister Toiu highlighted the importance of substantial allocations for the cohesion fund, the agricultural sector and for defense and security.
