The event was organized by the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the European Parliament, in Strasbourg, in early July 2026. Held under the slogan “A Home is a Right”, the campaign emphasized the human impact of financial struggles related to renting and buying properties across the European Union.
The exhibition mounted on this occasion and the storytelling gathering also focused on social policies and affordable housing. RRI’s Eugen Cojocariu sat down with the S&D Vice-President for Social Europe Gabriele Bischoff for a more comprehensive look at the issue.
The S&D campaign highlighted that 45 million Europeans are currently unable to pay their rent or mortgage on time. The Chair of the Housing Committee Irene Tinagli explains why housing is such a big problem in Europe:
A driving force behind the European Parliament’s housing plan, the S&D negotiator on the housing report Aodhán Ó Ríordáin joined us to discuss, among others, measures that will impact millions of Europeans in search of a house.
