The National Agency for Employment announces the authorization of the first employment agencies for foreign citizens, carried out exclusively online through the WorkinRomania.gov.ro platform. Operational as of August 6, the platform is a digital tool designed to simplify and streamline administrative procedures regarding foreign nationals’ access to the Romanian labor market. Through this platform, employers who hire foreign nationals can register online, employment agencies can apply for and obtain authorization, and employers can acquire the status of authorized employer. At the same time, the platform allows for the uploading and processing of single applications for foreign nationals, centralizing the main operations and documents required for these procedures in a single digital space.

Years of service and contributions made in Romania and the United States can be taken into account together when determining pension eligibility, following the entry into force on September 1 of the Social Security Agreement between the two countries. The agreement is particularly important for individuals who have worked in both countries but whose contribution periods, when considered separately in Romania and the U.S., are insufficient to meet the requirements for a pension. In practice, under certain conditions, contribution periods in Romania and the United States can be combined when determining pension eligibility. At the same time, the agreement aims to prevent the double payment of social security contributions when a person works temporarily in the other country. Each country retains its own system and calculates and pays its respective share of the pension separately. With the entry into force of this agreement, Romania becomes the 30th country with which the United States has concluded social security agreements.

The Suryam Association, through MureşHUB, has opened registration for a new phase of its intensive Romanian language program for Ukrainian refugees. The 8-month course is intended for Ukrainian refugees who have been living for at least one year in the counties of Mureş, Alba, Bistriţa-Năsăud, and Sibiu. The first classes will take place in Sibiu, as the county is home to the largest community of Ukrainian refugees, said MureşHUB founder Marius Dumitrescu. According to him, the classes are free and will be held weekly. To make the program accessible to refugees, especially those who are working, online sessions will also be organized, usually in the afternoon. The program is carried out with the support of NGOs coordinated by the International Organization for Migration. Over the past three years, 700 Ukrainian citizens have completed this program.

Approximately 5% of legally registered workers in Tulcea County (southeast) are foreign nationals from outside the European Union. Most of them come from Asia and work primarily in the tourism industry, though there is also a group specializing in shipbuilding. The Tulcea Territorial Labor Inspectorate reports that it has received complaints from foreign workers regarding violations of their rights, but that the number of such cases is extremely low.

The Bacău Local Police is organizing a competition to fill three entry-level positions, with no work experience required. The new employees will work in areas such as handling complaints, organizing records, identifying abandoned vehicles, maintaining records of individuals and homeowners’ associations, as well as organizing and monitoring road traffic. The competition includes a physical fitness test (which is an elimination round), a written exam, and an interview. Applications may be submitted until September 16. Detailed eligibility conditions and specific criteria are published on the official website of the Bacău Local Police. (LS)
