Young Romanian swimmers are returning from the Junior European Championships in Munich with three medals

Universitatea Craiova won the Romanian Super Cup in football. The champions defeated Universitatea Cluj 5–3 in a penalty shootout on Sunday, claiming their third trophy of the season after winning the Super League and the Romanian Cup. The match was played in Craiova. At the end of regulation time, the score was tied 1–1. French player Steven Nsimba opened the scoring for Craiova in the 40th minute. Swedish player Alibek Aliev equalized for Cluj in the 56th minute. In the penalty shootout, all five of Craiova’s shooters scored, while Issou Macalou of the Ivory Coast missed for Cluj. On Wednesday, Universitatea Craiova will host Belarusian side ML Vitebsk at home in the second leg of the first qualifying round of the Champions League; they defeated Vitebsk 4-1 away from home. On Thursday, in the first round of the Europa League qualifiers, Universitatea Cluj will play at home against Dynamo Kyiv. In the first leg of that matchup, the score was tied at 0–0.
Romania’s rugby team faced Uruguay’s national team on Saturday in Montevideo in the Nations Cup. The match ended in a 36–36 tie. The “Oaks” led 22–17 at halftime, after holding a 15-point lead in the first half. After halftime, Romania pulled ahead 29–17, but the South Americans fought back and tied the score, first at 29–29, and then set the final score at 36–36. Romania scored five tries, four of which were converted. Another three points came from a converted penalty kick. Romania will play its next Nations Cup match on July 18 against Samoa, also in Montevideo.
Romania finished with three medals its participation in the European Junior Swimming Championships in Munich. Daria Silişteanu won the gold medal in the 50-meter backstroke and the silver in the 100-meter backstroke. In the 200-meter backstroke, Aissia Prisecariu took the bronze medal. The Romanian delegation that competed in the Bavarian capital consisted of 17 athletes. (MI)
