Romanian tennis player Elena Gabriela Ruse has again proved her value. Last week she made it to the finals of the WTA 250 in the Dutch town of s’-Hertogenbosch

On Sunday, Elena Gabriela Ruse came very close to winning her first WTA 250 tennis tournament in the last four years. In the finals of the competition in s-Hertogenbosch she conceded defeat 6-3, 7-6 to Elise Martens of Belgium winning 181 WTA points and more than 18 thousand Euros. After the win in Hamburg, in July 2021, Ruse played in WTA finals in Palermo the same year, then in Transylvania Open in Cluj, in 2023. Following the show in the Netherlands, Elena Gabriela Ruse jumped 22 places presently ranking 58th in WTA standings.
The Romanian national women’s volleyball side on Sunday qualified for the Final Four of Golden League, after their 3-0 win in Zadar, Croatia against the host country. The Final Four will be hosted by Aangelholm, in Sweden over June 28 and 29. Romania will be up against Hungary in the semis, while Ukraine will be playing Sweden.
Romania’s table tennis player, Daniela Dodean Monteiro on Sunday withdrew from competitions during a ceremony hosted by her native city of Arad. The event brought together several top athletes, including her former team mate Elizabeta Samara. The two won gold in the women’s doubles of the European championships of 2009 and 2012. Monteiro’s prize closet also includes a European title won with Romania’s team in Luxemburg in 2017. In May 2010, she obtained her best position in the world ranking, the 19th position.
These days have seen continental football competitions for junior and young athletes. At the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia, our footballers lost their first two games, against Italy 1-0 on Wednesday and 2-1 against Spain on Saturday.
In the match against Spain, five times champions in this kind of competitions, Romania had the upper hand for 80 minutes. Louis Munteanu put them in the lead four minutes into the game but in the 84th minute Vladislav Blănuţă was given an early bath for a challenge at Cristian Mosquera, and Mikel Jaureguizar and Roberto Fernandez managed an equalizer and winner six minutes from time. Romania will be playing Slovakia on Tuesday. In the European Under-19 Championship hosted by Romania, our footballers secured a 1-0 win against Montenegro and will be up against Spain on Monday.
