Brașov is hosting the largest multinational artillery exercise in Europe.

The largest multinational artillery exercise in Europe is currently underway in central Romania. Dynamic Front 26, led by the US Army, is taking place at the Cincu training range in Brașov County.
In this iteration, soldiers from 24 countries are training simultaneously across five different nations, in nine training areas, and through multiple command posts spread throughout Europe. The exercise, which aims to test NATO’s regional plans, is considered a major test of how Alliance forces can act in a coordinated manner on the eastern flank in a complex security scenario, characterized by the need for a rapid and integrated response.
On Monday, the Cincu range hosted a live-fire exercise conducted by the Multinational Corps South-East Command in cooperation with the US-based 56th Multidomain Task Force – Europe, alongside NATO allies and partners from the United States, Romania, Poland and France. The drill tested how different artillery systems can cooperate.
In a press conference held at Cincu on Monday, the Commanding General of the 56th Multidomain Task Force – Europe, Brigadier General Steve Carpenter, said that Dynamic Front 26 is NATO’s “flagship fire support exercise” and that participants were enthusiastic about the opportunity and the results achieved.
He outlined the scale of the modern threat, saying, “We have to be able to intercept and neutralise between 600 and 1,200 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and long-range one-way attack drones, while simultaneously identifying targets, maintaining surveillance and passing them on, in a volume of at least 1,500”.
The commander of Romania’s 8th Tactical Operational Missile Brigade, known as the “HIMARS Brigade”, Colonel Costel Sorin Bălan, said his brigade participated in the exercise as a primary training audience.
“Dynamic Front 26 provided an excellent training opportunity to practice, evaluate and validate tactics, techniques and procedures within the strike framework, aiming to increase interoperability and strengthen our collective defense posture”, Colonel Bălan said. He added that the exercise also served as an excellent platform for the Combat Capability Assessment of the 8th Brigade, in accordance with NATO standards.
According to Romania’s Defense Ministry, the overall exercise pursues the practical application of the Eastern Flank Deterrence Line. Its objective is to test NATO’s regional plans and to integrate forces across land, air, maritime, cyber and space domains to counter concentrated conventional forces aimed at anti-access and area denial capabilities.
