On Tuesday, during an official visit to Bucharest, the Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu received assurances that the Republic of Moldova would continue to benefit from Romania’s support. President Nicuşor Dan conveyed, after the meeting he had with the Moldovan official, that the Republic of Moldova could permanently count on Romania’s support, whether it is about joining the European Union, ensuring energy security or increasing resilience in the face of hybrid threats. He emphasized that the two states had ‘many major projects that give increasingly significant consistency to the bilateral relationship’. According to him, “cross-border interconnection projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, transport and digital networks are particularly important to increase the degree of connection of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, through Romania”.

The Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan also assured his counterpart that Romania would continue to support the Republic of Moldova both bilaterally and to advance on its European path. “Romania supports the European path of the Republic of Moldova and welcomes the start of technical negotiations with the European Union. We will support the continuation of this process at the political level as well. At the same time, Romanian experts are collaborating with the administration in Chişinău to align legislation and practices with European standards,” Ilie Bolojan emphasized at the meeting. He also encouraged the increase in bilateral trade and the attraction of investments, which will contribute to the creation of jobs and new opportunities for companies.

In turn, Alexandru Munteanu thanked the Romanian Government for its support and collaboration. ‘The Romanian Government is part of the family for us. We work closely together and advance our joint projects at all levels,’ he said. During the discussions, the two prime ministers analyzed the status of the implementation of joint interconnection projects, the improvement of border transit conditions for citizens and goods, as well as strategic collaboration in the fields of energy and transport infrastructure.

On the other hand, during his intervention at a specialized event organized in Bucharest, Alexandru Munteanu stated that the neighboring state was facing multiple crises generated by the conflicts in Ukraine and the Gulf. According to him, the Republic of Moldova is affected by rising prices, disruption of energy supply, pollution of rivers and invasion of airspace by drones. And Europe is facing, he says, ‘extraordinary tensions’, not only at the borders, but also in terms of its economy and institutions. Alexandru Munteanu also specified that the Moldovan authorities have already implemented reforms that will become functional by 2030. “The Republic of Moldova has started technical negotiations for accession to the EU, and currently the authorities in Chişinău are carrying out all the preparatory measures and implementing the necessary reforms”, the Moldovan Prime Minister assured in Bucharest.
