The USA and Moldova appoint new ambassadors to Bucharest
The president of Romania, Nicușor Dan, has received the Ambassador-designate of the USA, Darryl Nirenberg, and the Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Mîțu, for the presentation of their credentials.

“I am confident we will have a very good and fruitful collaboration”, president Nicușor Dan said on Tuesday during a ceremony in which the new Ambassador of the United States of America to Bucharest, Darryl Nirenberg, presented his credentials. In a post on X, the head of state said that this initial dialogue focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Bucharest and Washington. “In a complicated geopolitical context, we aim for the bilateral relationship to focus on concrete projects in sectors vital to the prosperity and security of both nations”, president Dan further said.
In turn, Darryl Nirenberg, who was sworn in this February, reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening nearly 30 years of robust bilateral cooperation in the fields of defense, security, intelligence sharing, law enforcement and economic partnership. The ambassador emphasized that the relationship between the United States and Romania is built upon shared interests, a firm commitment to the rule of law and a common vision for a secure and prosperous future.
As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of American independence this year, ambassador Nirenberg highlighted the enduring importance of freedom, respect for fundamental rights, prosperity and sovereignty as principles that unite the American and Romanian people. The diplomat praised Romania’s growing role as a regional leader in energy security and innovation. He also noted the expansion of cooperation between the USA and Romania in civil nuclear energy, natural gas development and emerging energy technologies.
Also on Tuesday, the Romanian Head of State received the Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Mîțu, for the presentation of his credentials. The president assured him that Moldova remains a major foreign policy priority for Romania, which will continue to provide consistent bilateral support across all relevant levels and mobilize external partners to this end.
Regarding the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, Romania will continue to support the advancement of the accession process and provide technical assistance, including for the transposition of legislation and the integration of the community acquis. Another significant area of cooperation between the two countries remains the attraction of foreign investment to the Republic of Moldova, as well as the development of infrastructure and interconnection projects, and increasing the security and resilience of the neighboring state.
