This week on Listeners’ Letterbox: loads of reception reports

Every week, listeners from across the shortwave world take the time to write to us, sharing their reception conditions, describing what they heard, and telling us what RRI means to them. This week's Listeners Letterbox features eight wonderful messages. We are grateful to each and every one of you.

John Jurasek

Orlando, Florida, USA

15420 kHz · 31 May 2026

“Reception was quite good, with robust audio and mild fading. Every word was discernible and the broadcast was heard with total ease.”

John is a daily listener on both 15420 and 11620 kHz, and writes that he genuinely values RRI’s blend of news, music and culture — including stories that simply don’t make the American press. He even takes notes on our History features and researches them further afterward. He received us on a Tecsun PL-880 with the telescopic antenna, and filed a SINPO of 45544.

“I always learn something new about Romania upon listening in — whether that be new facts about Romanian History, Culture, or additional details concerning Romanian Current Events… I am always guaranteed to discover splendid music through your broadcast — whether that be Folk or Contemporary selections, which I would never hear anywhere else!”

Warren Lambing

Wellsville, New York, USA

11620 kHz · 2 June 2026

“Your station has always been one of my favourite stations to listen to.”

Warren caught us on a CommRadio CR-1 with an outdoor MLA-30+ loop antenna, with the signal showing a healthy +30 to +40 on his set. He logged a 13th-century Danube fortress feature, a piece on the 1924 rebellion, and Music for Children of the World. He was, by his own account, writing this message while listening to Listeners Letterbox — which we thought was rather wonderful.

Safril Susanto

Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia

15200 kHz · 2 June 2026

“Please provide verification of your broadcast reception, either in the form of a QSL card or eQSL. Thank you.”

Safril received our Romanian Service on the 19-metre band between 17:30 and 17:50 UTC, using a Sony ICF-7600D and a DIY long-wire sinus antenna. He reports a moderate signal with some noise interference — SINPO 35333 — and has gone as far as submitting a video recording of his reception as proof. A lovely report all the way from East Java.

Anand Mohan Bain

Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, India

15130 kHz · 18 May 2026

“Reception: good in my QTH.”

Anand is the President of the Pariwar Bandhu SWL Club, and this is his reception report number 10,228 — a staggering number that speaks to decades of shortwave dedication. He heard us between 1100 and 1200 UTC and logged the News, The History Show, and Romulus, using an extraordinary array of receivers and remote SDRs across Finland, Russia, the Netherlands, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and more.

Shivendu Paul

Murshidabad, West Bengal, India

15330 kHz · 17, 22, 24 May 2026

“Radio Romania International is the window to Romania.”

Shivendu is Secretary of the Murshidabad Betar Shrota Poribar (Murshidabad Radio Listeners’ Family) and President of the Metali Listeners’ Club. He received us on three separate occasions on an ICOM IC-718 with an inverted-V antenna, logging the full programme — News Headlines, The Week Review, Focus on Romania, World of Culture, the Encyclopedia, Simply Folk, and Listeners Letterbox itself. SINPO 43333.

“The entire program was very nice and enjoyable. I Love Radio Romania International.”

Nicholas

Desborough, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

7220 kHz · 26 May 2026

“The signal was very clear with virtually no interference. Thank you for the excellent programming.”

Nicholas tuned in just before midnight local time on the 26th of May — 22:55 UTC — on a Quansheng TK-11. He clearly heard the announcer providing contact details and reading out the station’s email address. An excellent report on 40 metres from the English Midlands.

Gustavo Bernardez YV5012SWL

Caracas, Venezuela

15330 kHz · 26 May 2026

“Signal is good, you can hear it and understand it well, sometimes it gets noisy.”

Gustavo caught us at 3:10 UTC on a Tecsun PL-330 with a short wire antenna. He logged features on the Romanian economy, Visit Romania, and two back-to-back blocks of Romanian music. As an amateur shortwave listener, he is requesting an eQSL for verification. SINPO 43334. 73s to Caracas!

Allen Willie

Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada

ICOM R-75 · 183m longwire

“Thank you for the last QSL you sent to me.”

Allen writes in from Newfoundland with a fresh batch of reception reports for our technical department, and takes a moment to thank us for the QSL card we previously sent him. His setup — an ICOM R-75 paired with a 183-metre unterminated longwire — sounds impressively formidable. Another QSL is already on its way back to Carbonear.
