Today we dive into the vibrant world of improvisational theatre — a dynamic art form that continues to evolve and captivate audiences worldwide. Recently, I have had the incredible opportunity to participate in the second edition of Improteca -The Festival, an improvisation festival held in Bucharest from May 4th to 10th. It was a week filled with creativity, spontaneity, music and powerful performances, bringing together talented artists and passionate trainers from across the globe. This edition was dedicated to musicality, and it brought to Bucharest 6 international trainers from 5 countries: Cindy Pittens from the Netherlands, specializing in emotional connection, monologue, and voice as an instrument; Liron Barre from the Netherlands/Israel, who teaches Lecoq physical theatre and body awareness; Lieze Walcarius from Belgium, specializing in ensemble musical improvisation and musical theater, Sophie Kneebone from Australia/Denmark, specializing in Songprov and Broadway-style improvised musicals; Ábel Farkas from Hungary, specializing in techniques such as presence, imagination, and collective creation. Also attending the festival was Dan Codreanu from Romania, an expert in nonverbal communication, physical theatre, and clowning.
On the last day of the festival I sat down with the festival director to learn more about the festival and its theme, an interview that you have already listened to in a previous edition of Happening in Romania. I also spoke to some of the international trainers participating in the festival who were kind enough to talk to me about their experience at the second edition of the Improteca-The Festival. SO, whether you’re an aspiring performer, a theater enthusiast, or simply curious about the art of improvisation, stay tuned for a compelling discussion about improv, musicality in improv, and the ongoing evolution of this vibrant community. Because improvisation isn’t just about spontaneity — it’s about connection, creativity, and continuous growth.
