This show is paying tribute to an exceptional gymnast on the 50th anniversary of her exceptional achievement: scoring the first perfect ten in Olympic history. That gymnast was Romania’s Nadia Comaneci, and she was 14 years old when her uneven bars routine at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games got the highest possible score.
Radio Romania’s sound archives contain an interview from 1981 in which a 19-year-old Nadia Comaneci talks to Radio Bucharest’s Frederica Dochinoiu about her everyday life, her hobbies, the upcoming University Games to be hosted by Bucharest that summer, as well as her recent exhibition tour of the United States.
