2015 is the year with the world-level economic growth rate standing at its lowest since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008, accounting for 3.1 % while in 2016 the economic growth rate will be of 3.5%, according to the IMF forecast. The IMF has estimated the short-term economic growth in the most developed economies would be stronger in the US and Great Britain, while a poorer growth figure would be reported for the Euro zone and Japan. For the emerging states, with China on top position, the IMF has estimated a slower economic growth rate for the fifth year in a row, while an improvement of such a situation has been forecast for the next year. According to the IMF, in 2015 Romania will have an economic growth rate standing at 3.4%, while a 3.9% growth rate would be reported for 2016. The value of both figures is higher than previous estimates.

Romania’s Public Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici in Chisinau on Wednesday signed the loan Agreement between Romania and Republic of Moldova, standing at 150 million Euro. The agreement is to take effect after both countries will have ratified it, while the first payment will be earmarked after the Government in Chisinau has informed the Romanian government about the stage of consultations and negotiations Moldova has with the IMF. We recall that against the backdrop of the scandal triggered by the issue of one billion dollars disappearing from the country’s budget system, the IMF last month announced it would not negotiate a new loan program with Republic of Moldova as the former Soviet Republic failed to comply with its reform commitments.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande in separate addresses before the European Parliament today will be focusing on hot issues from across Europe, with special emphasis on the migrants crisis. In Strasbourg yesterday, Euro MPs criticized the new relocation scheme for asylum-seekers, which has recently been opened by European leaders. Some of the leaders have even asked for the amendment of the Dublin Regulation, which aims to determine the member state responsible for an asylum claim, the opening of migration-related channels and fighting illegal migrants smuggling networks. In a separate development, the Hungarian government is today holding talks on ways of lawfully turning down the refugee quota the EU has decided upon. We recall more than 300 thousand migrants have entered Hungarian territory since the beginning of the year. Yesterday, groups of migrants were seized by police at the Hungarian-Croatian border and were transported to the country’s border with Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have opposed the mandatory relocation of migrants, who are now located in countries in the southern part of the European Union.

The match pitting Romania’s national football team against the similar team of Finland is scheduled in Bucharest on Thursday. It is the national team’s last-but-one fixture counting towards EURO 2016 preliminaries. In its group, Romania is the runner-up team, one point behind Northern Ireland, while 3rd-placed is Hungary. On Sunday, Romania will be taking on the team of Faeroe Islands, away from home, the last Group D game counting towards the EURO 2016 qualifying campaign.

Romania’s national rugby team in Leicester on Tuesday snatched a 17-15 win over Canada in a Pool D confrontation counting towards the 2015 edition of the Rugby World Cup, jointly hosted by England and Wales. The Oak Leaf Knights came from behind and overturned a 15-point deficit, which is the biggest comeback in the World Cup history, according to the competition’s official site. Romania’s national rugby team has thus secured a chance to seize the third position, should they win this coming Sunday’s fixture against Italy, which actually means securing a straight qualification for the 2019 edition of the World Cup. We recall Romania has sustained two defeats in Pool D, against Ireland and France.
