After an eight year absence, Romania once again has a team in the Final Four of the Women’s Handball Champions League.

Romania concluded the European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, Georgia, with a total of seven medals: two gold, four silver, and one bronze. The standout performers of the Romanian delegation were Mihaela Cambei and Cuban-born athlete Luis Manuel Lauret Rodriguez. In the 53 kg category, Mihaela Cambei won gold in the snatch and silver in both the clean and jerk and the total. In the 110 kg category, Luis Lauret claimed gold in the snatch with 195 kg — a new European record — and added a silver medal in the total. In the 63 kg category, Andreea Cotruța secured silver in the snatch, while Tiberiu Donose earned bronze in the snatch at 79 kg.
The European Wrestling Championships also concluded in Tirana, Albania, where Romania finished with four medals, all won by the women’s team: Andreea Ana took gold in the 55 kg category, Alexandra Anghel won silver in the 76 kg category and Alina Vuc (50 kg) and Ukrainian-born athlete Kateryna Zelenykh (68 kg), competing for Romania, each earned bronze.
Romania once again has a team in the Final Four of the Women’s Handball Champions League — CSM Bucharest. The Romanian champions advanced after overturning their quarterfinal tie against Danish side Esbjerg, winning 37–27 on Sunday in Bucharest. In the first leg, the Scandinavians had edged a 26–25 victory. Romania’s second representative in the quarterfinals, Gloria Bistrița, was eliminated by French team Brest Bretagne, losing 35–36 at home and 30–36 away on Sunday. Alongside Brest and CSM, the final tournament scheduled for early June in Budapest will also feature Metz (France) and Győr (Hungary).
In the sixth round of the Romanian Super League’s final phase, the play‑off for the championship saw CFR win the Cluj derby against Universitatea 1–nil on Saturday, while on Sunday Dinamo defeated Rapid 3–1 in the Bucharest derby. The final match of the round, FC Argeș versus Universitatea Craiova, was scheduled for Monday. At the top of the standings, Universitatea Cluj and Universitatea Craiova are tied on points. In the play‑out, where teams fight to avoid relegation, Friday’s matches ended with Hermannstadt drawing 0–0 with Csikszereda in Sibiu and FCSB beating Petrolul Ploiești 3–1. On Saturday, FC Botoșani drew 1–1 at home with Oțelul Galați, and on Sunday UTA and Farul Constanța finished 0–0 in Arad. Monday’s game featured Metaloglobus against Unirea Slobozia. At the moment, Ploiești and Hermannstadt occupy the places leading to the play‑off, while Slobozia and Metaloglobus sit in the direct relegation positions. (EE)
