The European Women’s Volleyball Championships kicked off last weekend with the group’s stage taking place in four countries, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Azerbaijan and Sweden.
Romania plays in group C, in Baku, Azerbaijan. On Saturday our players conceded a 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands. On Monday Romania takes on the local side. They will be playing Belgium on Tuesday and Portugal on Thursday. On Friday they will be playing Spain. The first four sides in the group will qualify for the round of 16.
The World Rowing Championship kicks off in Amsterdam. Romania participates with several crews, who stand good chances to medals. We recall that Romanians put up a good show at the European Championships held in Italy early this month. Romania’s rowers in Varese won gold in the men’s and women’s double scull races in the men’s and women’s eight and in mixed eights and scull sprints. In the world’s championship held in Shanghai, in September, Romania’s coxless pair and its mixed eight stepped onto the podium’s highest step.
Gloria Bistriţa won Romania’s Supercup in women’s handball. Gloria outperformed CSM Bucharest 40-38 in the semis on Saturday and in the finals on Sunday, they clinched a 31-18 win against Corona Brasov. In the 2026 – 2027 edition of the Champions League, Romania will be represented by both Gloria and CSM.
CSM went third in the past edition of the most important European competition.
Last weekend saw the games of Romania’s Superleague in football. On Friday, Rapid Bucharest clinched a 2-0 win against Petrolul Ploiesti. UTA and Corvinul Hunedoara ended in a goaless draw their match on Saturday, while Dinamo Bucharest clinched a 2-1 win against Universitatea Cluj. Sunday saw three matches; in Sfantu Gheorghe, central Romania, Sepsi versus Farul Constanta ended in a draw, one-all
Then in Craiova, southern Romania, the local side, Universitatea, secured a 3-1 win against FC Voluntari. In Cluj, western Romania, local side CFR obtianed a 1-o win against FCSB. Dinamo tops the table with 13 points, followed by FCSB and Rapid, each with 11.
