The European Weightlifting Championship has ended in Chişinău, the Republic of Moldova. The Romanian athletes walked from the aforementioned competition with 11 medals: four gold, three silver and four bronze.
Mihaela Cambei won three gold medals in the 49 kilogram category, in the jerk, snatch and total events. In the 59 kilogram, Andreea Cotruta won gold in the total event and two silver, in the snatch and jerk events. Cristian Luca reaped silver in the snatch event of the 55 kilogram category contest.
In the snatch event of the 45 kilograms, Ioana Mădălina Miron stepped onto the podium’s third step and so did Cosmina Pană in the 49 kilogram category. The athlete of Cuban origin who represented Romania, Luis Manuel Lauret Rodriguez, won two bronze medals in the 109 kilogram contest.
At the World Gymnastics Cup in Doha, Qatar, the Romanian gymnast Sabrina Voinea reaped gold in the floor event with 13.600 points. She was followed by Canadian gymnast Audrey Rousseau and Sara Peter of Hungary, both with 12.833. In the beam event, where she qualified on the second position, Sabrina came 5th, following a failure.

In the Champions League, the Romanian women’s side, CSM Bucharest won the first round of the quarter finals against Danish side Team Esbjerg. On Sunday at the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest, the Romanian champions won the match 30 – 29.
Crina Pintea was the best CSM scorer with 10 goals scored, and Cristina Neagu, at the last game in her career, scored 7 goals. The return match will be taking place in Esbjerg, on April 27 and the winner will go to the competition’s final tournament due on May 31st and June 1st in Budapest.
Last weekend saw the matches of the fifth leg of Romania’s Football Superleague. On Saturday, Universitatea Cluj clinched a 2-0 win against Rapid on Giulesti Arena.
On Sunday, FCSB obtained a 3-2 win against CFR Cluj, while on Monday on the same stadium, Universitatea Craiova clinched a 2-0 win against Dinamo Bucharest. FCSB tops the table with 39 points, followed by Craiova, with 36 and CFR, with 34.
On Friday in Galaţi, eastern Romania, local side Oţelul outperformed Unirea Slobozia, 2-0, and in Arad, local side UTA and Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe ended their match one-all. The same score was registered on Saturday in Ovidiu, where the local side Farul Constanţa took on Hermannstadt. On Sunday, Poli Iaşi secured a 3-0, home win against Botoşani, while on Monday in Ploieşti, southern Romania, local side Petrolul claimed a 4-0 win against Gloria Buzău, a team presently at the bottom of the table with 16 points, three less than Slobozia. The sides of Sfântu Gheorghe and Botoşani are struggling to avoid demotion four legs until the end of the season.
