Romania will not dispatch troops to Ukraine but will support the peace-keeping operations after a final agreement or a ceasefire has been reached – Romanian president Nicuşor Dan told a national television channel on Thursday after having attended the videoconference of the countries supporting Ukraine. The head of the Romanian state said that many countries geographically located close to Russia have a similar position.

Nicusor Dan: ʺLike we have done so far we will be logistically supporting, with our bases, all the peace-keeping operations but for this we must have peace or at least a ceasefire.”

In a message conveyed after the meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” president Dan equally underlines that pressure must be maintained on Russia, which continues to prove it doesn’t want peace and in this respect Romania supports the adoption of additional sanctions against that country.

Transatlantic unity and coordination represents a force in the face of Moscow – Nicusor Dan went on to say.  He also hailed the participation of the United States in the aforementioned videoconference in Paris, adding that the American implication remains essential in the attempt to implement sustainable peace in Ukraine, a country neighboring Romania.

Besides Ukraine’s strong security, the ongoing consolidation of NATO’s position on its eastern flank and at the Black Sea is also needed along with support granted to the Republic of Moldova whose European and democratic roadmap has the same importance for the region’s general stability and security – President Dan also says.

At the Paris meeting, all the 35 members of the “Coalition of the Willing” have announced their intention to participate in the effort of offering security guarantees to Ukraine upon the end of the conflict.

Every member has made concrete presentations regarding their implication, but details are classified.

What is known is the fact that 26 of these countries have assumed commitments to a so-called reassurance force with ground, air and sea deployments. The aforementioned troops will not have the objective of waging war on Russia but of guaranteeing peace in the long term and preventing any new major aggression against Ukraine. According to French president Emmanuel Macron, there will be new contacts between the United States and Russia, and if Russia continues to say no to peace, additional sanctions will be decided together with the USA and clear answers will be given to a suchlike refusal.
