Romania faces difficult weather as several counties in the west, south and east are under code yellow alert for severe rain and winds of up to 80 km/h until Wednesday night. In the mountains, at altitudes over 2000 meters, rain is already mixed with snow. Maximums today are between 9 and 17 degrees Celsius, about 10 degrees below the average for this time of the year. The noon reading in Bucharest was 9 degrees.

In Bucharest, the special parliament committee formed to regulate the issue of Rosia Montana issue is scheduled to meet on Monday representatives of the executive in charge of that mining operation. Tens of thousands of protesters gathered on Sunday once again in several Romanian cities, as well as in London and New York to protest the project to mine gold at Rosia Montana. In August, the government passed a bill allowing a Canadian company to extract gold and silver there using cyanide based agents. The protesters call on Parliament to reverse the bill, to ban cyanide mining in Romania, and to apply for UNESCO protection status for the area.

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has once again risen in the WTA standings, reaching 17th place, the best of her career. Next in line from Romania in the WTA is Simona Cirstea, holding 21st place, while another Romanian player, Monica Niculescu, dropped from the 42nd to the 44th position. The first three places are held by Serena Williams of the US, Viktoria Azarenka of Belarus and Maria Sharapova of Russia.
