The final stage of the regular season of the Romanian Super League will take place at the end of this week.

Romania’s women’s national handball team defeated Slovakia 32-26 on Thursday in Michalovce in a Group A match of the EHF EURO Cup 2026 qualifiers. Sorina Grozav scored the most goals for the Romanian team, with 10. In the other match in the group, Norway defeated Poland 31-24 in Lubin. On Sunday, Romania will face Slovakia again in Bistriţa. Norway leads the standings with 6 points, followed by Romania with 4 points, Poland with 2 points, and Slovakia with no points. The top two teams in the group qualify for the final tournament. The five host teams of the European Championship at the end of this year, namely Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Turkey, do not play in the preliminaries but participate in the EHF EURO Cup, alongside Norway, Denmark, and Hungary.

We move on to men’s handball to report on Dinamo Bucharest’s second victory in the Champions League. On Thursday, the Romanian team defeated the Norwegian team Kolstad Handball with a score of 33-23 in the penultimate round of Group A. In the standings, the Romanian champions are in 7th place, the penultimate position, which they can no longer surpass. The top two teams go directly to the quarterfinals, and the next four will compete in playoffs for a place in the quarterfinals.

Romania’s rugby team will face Georgia away on Sunday in the semi-finals of the Rugby Europe Championship. In the current world rankings, the Caucasian national team is in 13th place, just below Wales, while Romania is in 21st place. In direct confrontations with Georgia, Romania has not won since 2017. The last two games, both played in Tbilisi in 2024 and 2025, ended with the same score: 43-5 for Georgia.

The Romanian Super League football championship has reached the end of the regular season. The last round of matches, number 30, is scheduled for the weekend. On Friday, there is only one match: Csikszereda vs. Farul Constanţa. On Saturday, Metaloglobus plays UTA in Clinceni, FC Botoşani meets Petrolul Ploieşti at home, and FCSB faces Universitatea Cluj in Bucharest. On Sunday, in Galaţi, Oţelul will host Hermannstadt from Sibiu, then FC Argeş will play against Unirea Slobozia in Mioveni. The evening will end with the derby of the stage, scheduled in Bucharest, between Rapid and Universitatea Craiova. Another interesting game will take place on Monday: CFR Cluj will face Dinamo Bucharest on the Transylvanian team’s home turf. Craiova leads the standings with 59 points, followed by Rapid with 55. We already know the six teams that will advance to the playoffs: Craiova, Rapid, Dinamo, FC Argeş, and the Cluj teams Universitatea and CFR.
