The companies ranked in the top 10 positions of the 2026 National Top of Firms employ over 1.37 million people, according to data from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR). This figure represents nearly 34% of the more than 4 million employees working for all companies that submitted their financial statements for 2025, the CCIR notes. Specialized statistics indicate an increase in the number of employees within the research and development and high-tech sectors, where the ranked companies account for over 88,000 staff members, as well as in construction (nearly 55,000 employees) and tourism (over 29,300 employees). From a regional perspective, the capital, Bucharest, accounts for approximately 515,000 employees of the ranked companies, representing over 37.5% of the total. The list continues with Ilfov County (approximately 94,000 employees), Cluj in the northwest (nearly 68,000), Timiș in the west (around 65,000), and Brașov in the central region (nearly 50,000). Furthermore, among the companies included in the 2026 National Top of Firms, those with entirely private Romanian capital employ nearly 2.7 million people, 3.2 times more than those with entirely foreign capital. According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, the ranking is based on five key economic indicators: net turnover, operating profit, operating profit margin, efficiency in the use of human resources, and efficiency in the use of employed capital.

The number of new job openings posted on the online platform eJobs during the first nine months of the year exceeded 160,000, a slight increase compared to the same period in 2025. The representatives of the recruitment platform noted that, in 2026, employers in Romania are exercising caution regarding plans to expand their teams. Nevertheless, the retail, banking and finance, food industry, and transport sectors have continued their recruitment efforts. At the other end of the spectrum were the education, pharmaceutical, real estate, energy, and advertising sectors. The highest number of job opportunities were available to candidates in Bucharest, followed by those in Brașov (central region) and Cluj-Napoca (north-west), with positions open to individuals at nearly all career levels. According to an analysis by eJobs, over 10 million job applications were submitted during the first nine months of the year, an increase of 27% compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, an increase in the volume of job applications was recorded across all age groups.
