The President of Romania, Nicuşor Dan, declared, in his New Year’s message, that in 2026 it is essential that the Romanian state becomes more efficient, fairer and closer to citizens, after 2025 was ‘a year of trials, anxieties and normal questions’, but also of ‘resistance and civic maturity’.
“On the threshold of a new year, we pause for a few moments and look with lucidity and honesty both at the path we have traveled and at the responsibility of the future that awaits us. The year 2025 was a year of trials, anxieties and normal questions. Many Romanians have felt the pressure of the rising cost of living, fears about job stability and the uncertainty of an increasingly unpredictable world. These realities are real and cannot be ignored. But 2025 was, at the same time, a year of resistance and civic maturity. A year in which Romania remained firmly anchored in its democratic values and in its European and Euro-Atlantic commitments. A year in which our society demonstrated that it knows how to mobilize, to be supportive and responsible when it is truly put to the test.” the head of state said in his New Year’s message.
According to him, 2026 offers us the chance to renew trust, to correct what has not worked and to build, together, a fairer and stronger Romania.
“Looking towards 2026, it is essential that the Romanian state becomes more efficient, fairer and closer to its citizens. Reform, responsibility and competence cannot remain simple declarations of intent, but obligations of the state towards every Romanian. Romania has enormous potential. Capitalizing on this potential requires a common vision, a modern and competitive economy, an efficient administration, an educational system adapted to the future, a solid rule of law, a state that invests in its security and in which big corruption no longer finds its place. In essence, a country that respects its citizens. The New Year offers us the chance to renew trust, to correct what has not worked and to build, together, a fairer and stronger Romania. The road will not be easy, but I am convinced that it is a road that we can successfully travel. I wish you all health, peace and the strength to look to the future with hope. Happy New Year to all Romanians, wherever you are!” the Romanian President Nicuşor Dan also said in his New Year’s message. (LS)
