Reflections on Constantin Brâncuși

A pioneer of abstract sculpture, Constantin Brancusi exerted a strong influence upon generations of artists, including Britain’s celebrated sculptor Henry Moore. In an interview from 1968, Moore talked about how Brâncuși influenced his formative years.
One year earlier, on the tenth anniversary of Brâncuși’s death, Bucharest had hosted an international conference dedicated to the artist. MoMa curator William Lieberman spoke about Brâncuși’s special connection to America.
While American children’s book writer Helen Kay, the author of a book about Brancusi’s childhood, recounts Constantin Brâncuși’s early years in his village in south-western Romania and the things that inspired him later in his work, from ordinary household objects to the traditional world of Romanian shepherds.
