The renowned Georgian playwright Basa Janikashvili has presented in Bucharest his play “Saint Anthim the Iberian – Son of Georgia and Father of Wallachia”, a bilingual edition in Georgian and Romanian.
The event was organized by the Embassy of Georgia in Romania and the Library of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church at the Antim Monastery, in downtown Bucharest.
RRI’s Eugen Cojocariu took the opportunity to speak with Basa Janikashvili about the play, as well as about radio and Georgian theatre.
Anthim the Iberian, known as Antim Ivireanul in Romanian and Antimoz Iverieli in Georgian (c.1650 – 1716) was a Georgian theologian, scholar, calligrapher, philosopher and one of the greatest ecclesiastical figures of Wallachia (southern part of modern Romania), led the printing press of the Prince of Wallachia and served as Metropolitan of Bucharest from 1708 to 1716. In 1992, Anthim was canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church.
