The Black Sea coast is the main summer holiday destination in Romania

At a distance of almost 80 km, between Năvodari and Vama Veche, the Black Sea coast is the main summer holiday destination in Romania. In recent years, the area called Mamaia Nord, between Năvodari and the Mamaia resort, has developed greatly, where many hotels and buildings with apartments for rent have appeared. Known today as a pole of nightlife, with many clubs, the Mamaia resort has undergone a major transformation compared to the 70s of the last century, when, amid the emergence of many hotels in the new resorts on the Romanian Riviera, Mamaia was considered a holiday destination for families with children. Unlike all other resorts, Mamaia is 120 years old. It was inaugurated on August 22, 1906, the day when two trains full of officials left Constanta, trains that reached the Mamaia spa establishments, covering a distance of several km in an hour and a half. The railway no longer exists, however, on the approximately 10 km of land between the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol, we find many hotels, campsites, restaurants, clubs, terraces, and sports fields. Also on the northern coast is the city of Constanța, a destination with many cultural attractions, which is worth discovering on foot. It also has beaches that turn into huge dance floors during music festivals and concerts, events that attract young people. 14 km south of Constanța, and a short distance from the highway that connects this port city with Bucharest, is Eforie Nord, one of the most sought-after resorts on the Romanian Black Sea coast. Eforie Nord earned its title of spa resort thanks to the therapeutic mud of Lake Techirghiol, located in the vicinity. In terms of what it offers, the Romanian Black Sea coast is a complex tourist product, as emphasized by Adrian Voican, vice president of the National Association of Travel Agencies:
“We are used to tourists coming from German-speaking countries, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, who go for recovery, treatment, special procedures, in the Eforie- Neptun area. And they have been coming for years, so this segment is preserved! It is not a large segment, but it is a constant segment. There are young people and people eager for fun, and here we have two or three categories again. For those who want ad hoc concerts and music all night, we have Vama Veche, the sunrise that catches you dancing on the beach. If you want concert music, which is what happens at the Costineşti festival, go there. There are also musical events that happen in Mamaia and Constanța.”
Going from Eforie to the south of the coast, we come across the town of Costinești, known for decades as a youth resort, thanks to its lively atmosphere, nightlife, and affordable prices. Further south, at a distance of 7 km, there are no less than 6 tourist resorts, Olimp, Neptun, Jupiter, Cap Aurora, Venus and Saturn, in this order, as well as the resort town of Mangalia. The southernmost destination of the Romanian coast is Vama Veche, located less than a km from the border with Bulgaria, a destination with night parties on the beach, with lots of music, in improvised performances or announced concerts. In addition to days on the beaches or evenings in restaurants or clubs, there are other ways to enjoy a holiday on the Romanian Black Sea coast. Adrian Voican, vice president of the National Association of Travel Agencies:
“There are other types of attractive activities, visits to wineries in Dobrogea or historical sites, like Histria or nature adventure in the Danube Delta, where again we have a fairly good infrastructure, and which is improving step by step. There are also sports events, like beach volleyball competitions and triathlon. There are many attractions, everyone can find them. When it is windy, for some it is not so good, but for surfers it is wonderful, those who do windsurfing go out on the sea with their boards, looking for windy places. The wind in Vama Veche is already poetry in motion, but there is suitable wind for something like this outside Vama Veche too. There are many options, because the Romanian coast has 13 serious resorts, it can receive up to 150 thousand people in rated locations, recognized by the Ministry of Tourism.”
In addition to all this, the Romanian Black Sea coast offers those interested recreational flights and even piloting courses in Tuzla, a town located 20 km south of Constanța, where there is a small airport. Every month, about 50 people obtain their pilot’s license at the Tuzla school.
