Romanian Prime Minister, Luca Niculescu, on Wednesday met representatives of the foreign investors in Romania to whom he told that the economic relaunch is the main objective of the newly-installed government.
Complementary objectives are, according to Luca Niculescu, curbing the budget deficit and keeping inflation at bay. The head of the government has thanked the representatives of the foreign investors in Romania for the important role they had in developing the country. He added that rebuilding trust together with the state institutions and the Romanian companies is absolutely necessary in the process of finding the best solutions for the business environment. Romania has these days attracted 4.5 billion Euros from the financial institutions.
This is a good signal, which confirms that overcoming the political deadlock in Bucharest has fostered a rise in international credibility, Luca Niculescu believes.
Luca Niculescu: “We have a first signal of trust, the fact that two days ago we had a positive answer in the Eurobond issue. This shows that the signal of having a government with full-powers is a good one. At the same time, the fact that we did what we promised, namely that first budgetary adjustment was also a good thing.”
Kick-starting the economy through new investments can create new jobs and opportunities particularly for the young people, the Prime Minister said. He has also told the foreign investors the Executive is also focusing on increasing the effectiveness of the measures aimed at combating tax evasion, curbing red tape and applying standards characterized to developed economies, to meet the investors’ needs as much as possible.
For this reason, the OECD accession proves to be an essential objective for rising the country’s profile and attracting foreign capital – Luca Niculescu went on to say, as before being a Prime Minister, he used to be national coordinator in Romania’s efforts of joining the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
On their turn, business people called for maintaining a coherent roadmap of structural reforms. In the first eight months of the year, direct foreign investment sharply dropped by 62% as compared to the similar period last year. Foreign investment in Romania exceeded 8 billion Euros last year alone. To ease dialogue with the foreign investors representatives who presented a series of concrete proposals for boosting economic growth, Luca Niculescu has called on the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery to prepare a series of quarterly meetings to bring together government representatives.
