Radio Romania Culture Awards Gala
Radio Romania Culture channel has awarded the best performances in various areas of culture.

For 15 years now, in late March, Radio Romania Culture channel has been awarding the best performances in various areas of culture in the previous year. The RRC manager, Radu Croitoru, says this initiative is natural for a radio channel exclusively devoted to culture:
Radu Croitoru: “The idea of the RRC awards is based on the fact that we are the only national-coverage FM radio channel entirely focusing on culture and cultural events in Romania. And given that this is our job, we believe at every end of year our colleagues can look back, say what worked best, and pinpoint the accomplishments of that year in various cultural areas. RRC is the channel that assesses those events. The topics that we cover every day are carefully selected.”
The Radio Romania Culture Awards fall into nine categories: poetry, prose, film, theatre, music, fine arts, education, science, cultural projects and festivals.
Radu Croitoru: “The categories are roughly the same every year, and cover the most visible areas of the national culture. The mechanism of the RRC awards is simple. Our colleagues, organised into nomination commissions, make suggestions—and this year their number was larger than we had expected—and the Gala jury decides on the final list of nominees and the winners of each category. This is the 15th edition, and we see it as an anniversary one. I would like to thank those who, before us, had the initiative of this cultural awards gala. Radio Romania is a massive producer and provider of culture.”
The winners included choreographer Razvan Mazilu, the Romanian Peasant Museum, violinist Gabriel Croitoru and writer Nora Iuga. The 22nd Sibiu International Theatre Festival was awarded in the festival and cultural projects category. The award was presented to the festival director, Constantin Chiriac.
For several years now, RRC has also offered three special awards. The Lux Mundi Award, granted to people taking their works around the world has been granted to choreographer Gigi Caciuleanu this year. The In Memorian Iosif Sava Award has for the first time been granted to an institution, the Bucharest National University of Music, which celebrated 150 years since its establishment in 2014. And last but not least, the Excellence Award went to actor Mircea Albulescu, one of the outstanding Romanian theatre personalities, who said:
Mircea Albulescu: “Theatre is one of our few ways towards all that is good and towards joy. Don’t abandon it! Thank you!”
