Romania's best player at the European Women's Handball
Championship hosted by Denmark, pivot Lorena Ostase, has been nominated for the
competition's all-star team chosen by fans. Ostase plays for CSM Slatina and
scored 26 goals in five matches for the national side. Other players proposed for
Ostase's position in the all-star team are Germany's Julia Behnke, Norway's Kari
Brattset Dale, Croatia's Ana Debelic and Sweden's Linn Blohm, who also happens
to play for the Romanian club Minaur Baia Mare. Other players proposed for the
all-star team and who are signed up with Romanian clubs are Spain's Carmen Martin,
who plays as a right wing for CSM Bucharest, and Croatia's Valentina Blazevic,
who plays as a centre back for Măgura Cisnădie.
The Romanian men's volleyball side Arcada Galaţi reached
the quarterfinals of the CEV Cup. They defeated the Dutch side Amysoft Groningen
3:2 in the last 16 held on Wednesday in Moscow. It took Arcada Galaţi two hours
of play to pull off this victory. They were leading 2 sets to zero when Groningen
made a comeback and equalised the score. Arcada won in the end in tiebreak. Their
best player of the match was Niels Klapwijk, who scored 28 points.
In football, Romanian midfielder Alexandru Maxim
scored a goal for his club Gaziantep, who reached the round of last 16 of the
Turkish Cup, after they defeated Kocaelispor 3:2 at home on Wednesday. Maxim,
who was brought onto the field by manager Marius Şumudică 46 minutes into the match,

In domestic football, Tuesday and Wednesday saw several
matches counting for the 14th leg of the Romanian First League. On Tuesday,
Astra Giurgiu defeated Gaz Metan Mediaș 3-nil, while FC Botoșani defeated Viitorul
Constanța 2:1. On Wednesday, Poli Iași drew nil-all against Academica Clinceni,
FC Argeș drew 2-all against FC Hermannstadt, and Chindia Târgoviște defeated FC
Voluntari 2-nil. Two matches are scheduled for Thursday: Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe versus
UTA and Dinamo Bucharest versus CFR Cluj. In the last match of the leg on
Friday, Universitatea Craiova will be facing FCSB. Craiova are current leaders
in the ranking, with 31 points, followed by FCSB, with 30.
