President Nicușor Dan convened the Supreme Council for National Defense (CSAT) on Friday at 11:00 a.m., after a Russian drone crashed into an apartment building in Galați. He stated that the unprecedented nature of the incident requires a firm, coordinated, and proportionate response—at the national, allied, and international levels.
Nicușor Dan also announced that Romania has officially requested that allies deploy additional anti-drone capabilities on national territory to strengthen our defense and that of the Alliance’s Eastern Flank, in accordance with SACEUR’s instructions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterizes this incident as a serious and irresponsible escalation on the part of the Russian Federation.
Romania will take the necessary diplomatic measures in response to this serious violation of international law and its airspace.
Romanian authorities have informed the Allies and the NATO Secretary General of the circumstances and have requested the acceleration of the transfer of anti-drone capabilities to Romania.
The Russian Federation remains an aggressor state waging an illegal war with serious implications for regional security and the safety of citizens. The Russian Federation bears direct responsibility for these serious and irresponsible actions.
Romania will act with the utmost firmness to intensify international pressure on the Russian Federation, with a view to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.
