KYIV Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has today announced on social networks that ‘his country will not give land to the occupier’. Before the upcoming meeting between the US president Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska, Zelensky says, quote ‘any decisions against us, any decisions without Ukraine, are also decisions against peace.’ On Friday President Trump said that the upcoming peace talks could involve some land swapping between the two sides. Russia had earlier called on Ukraine to officially cede the four regions partially controlled by its army (Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson) as well as the Crimean Peninsula annexed in 2014, give up its intention to join NATO and reduce its military capabilities. Ukraine has rejected the conditions, which it described as unacceptable.
