Romania prepares to celebrate National Day on December 1, when it will mark 107 years since the establishment of the Romanian nation state was completed. On December 1, 1918, the Great National Assembly in Alba Iulia (centre) decided that Transylvania, Banat, Crișana and Maramureș would join the Romanian Kingdom. All the provinces with mostly Romanian population previously under the rule of neighbouring Tsarist and Austro-Hungarian multinational empires therefore came under Bucharest’s authority.

Taking part in the military parade organised on December 1, in Bucharest, at the Arch of Triumph will be over 2,900 troops and personnel from the defence ministry, the interior ministry, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications Service and the National Penitentiary Administration, with 220 vehicles and 45 aircraft. The defence ministry also announced that 240 foreign troops from NATO Allied and partner countries, including France, North Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the US, will also march in the parade.

Preparations for the parade on Romania’s National Day began last week. On Wednesday, a first rehearsal took place at the Ghencea shooting range in Bucharest. According to defence ministry officials, several rehearsals will take place at the Ghencea training unit until December 1, and some of the equipment will transit the area.

“Such equipment movements are planned activities, carried out in safe conditions and may temporarily generate noise or traffic congestion in the area adjacent to the shooting range,” the defence ministry announced.

This Tuesday, a rehearsal open for the media will take place, while the full-scale rehearsal for the national parade on December 1st will be held at the Arch of Triumph on Saturday. Both at the November 29th training and on December 1st, 21 cannon salutes will be fired during the singing of the National Anthem, according to the National Day military tradition.

On December 1st the national flag will be hoisted in all military institutions in the country and on board maritime and river vessels. An exhibition of military equipment will be mounted near the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest, which can be visited after the official ceremony. Also, the military personnel in foreign missions and theatres of operations will participate in special ceremonies on this occasion. (AMP)
