The International Football Federation — FIFA has taken an unprecedented decision that will rock the world of football. Video replays will be introduced and used for refereeing at the World Cup of 2018 in Russia. FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has confirmed the decision at the 67th Congress of the South-American Football Confederation — CONMEBOL, hosted by Santiago de Chile. “In 2017, when everyone in the stadium or at home can see within seconds if the referee made a mistake, we can’t have a situation where the only one who can’t see it is the referee”, Infantino said.

This week the first round of the Romanian Cup semi-finals was played on Tuesday. In Giurgiu, the local side Astra defeated Poli Timisoara 4-1. Scoring for the home side was Constantin Budescu on minutes 4 and 52, both goals from penalty kick, Cristian Sapunaru on minute 36 and Alexandru Ionita on minute 76. The visiting side’s only goal was scored by Alexandru Popovici, on minute 9. The return leg will be played some time between May 16-18 in Timisoara.

The other semi-final will be played on Thursday: CSU Craiova will play FC Voluntari.

The Romanian Cup final is scheduled to take place on May 27, on “Ilie Oana” stadium in Ploiesti.

In news from international football, striker Florin Andone has scored a new goal in the match his team, Deportivo La Coruna, lost to Real Madrid, 2-6. The Romanian forward scored the goal when Real was leading 2-nil. Andone also provided the assist for Deportivo’s second goal.

Dorin Rotariu on Wednesday put up a solid performance for his club, FC Brugges. The former Dinamo player was involved in two of the goals that brought his club’s a 3-1 win against Ostended, as part of the fifth round of the Belgian First League’s playoffs. Dorin Rotariu even came close to scoring twice in the second half. On minute 79, Rotariu was replaced on the pitch by Tony Limbombe.
