The latest from the world of football
Football teams coached by two of the best Romanian coaches right now, Cosmin Olaroiu and Dan Petrescu, played each other in the Chinese championship. Jiangsu Suning, with Olaroiu at the helm, defeated 3-1 Guizhou Hengfeng, Dan Petrescu’s team. Surprisingly, Guizhou scored the first goal, despite being bottom of the table. Jiangsu came back to eventually win the game. Olaroiu’s team is currently in 5th place with 28 points, 5 points behind the leader Beijing Guoan and four points behind runner-up Shandong Luneng. Guizhou Hengfeng has 8 points, 4 of which were secured with Dan Petrescu, who took over the team in early June. Ghizhou is 7 points above the relegation area.
The football side PAOK Thessaloniki, coached by Razvan Lucescu, defeated Spartak Moscow at home, 3-2. The match counted towards the first leg of the Champions League third preliminary round. The Russians had a 2-nil lead, but the Greek side made a spectacular comeback to win 3-2. On minute 71, Spartak missed a penalty kick.
Also in Champions League. Razvan Marin was one of the best players on the pitch for his team, Standard Liege, in the match against Ajax Amsterdam. Played in Belgium, the match ended 2-all. The Romania contributed to the first goal scored by his team. Since Michel Preud-homme has taken over Standard as head coach, Razvan Marin is a first-team regular.
